Biography
Harry Futselaar (1964) holds a MSc-graduation in Mechanical Engineering, a PD-Eng (Professional Doctorate in Engineering) in Process Engineering, a PhD-graduation in Chemical Engineering (all at the University of Twente, The Netherlands).
After a post-doc position at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), he joined industry in 1996 holding various positions, including project manager at LHS Microfiltration Ltd, research fellow at the University of Twente and special projects manager at the business unit Membranes of Stork Friesland B.V. In 2000, he became technology development manager at Norit Process Technology Ltd and X-Flow Ltd. Here, after the take-over of Norit CPT holding by Pentair Inc in 2012, he first was responsible for the market and technology development in the areas of water and wastewater treatment and later on for bridging strategic innovation, market-driven and technology-push development for water and wastewater product market combinations. From 2004-2007 Futselaar also worked part-time as a scientific project manager at TTI Wetsus, centre for sustainable water technology (Leeuwarden, The Netherlands).
Since 2008, he is professor International Water Technology at Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Enschede, The Netherlands); first having a part-time position in combination with his career in industry, and since 2014 as full-time professor. In 2022, he was also appointed as visiting professor at Ton Duc Thang University (Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).
He started his career in membrane filtration in 1988 and has a long track record in module, process and application development as well as basic engineering of systems in the field of water and wastewater treatment. Currently, his activities are focused on increasing the awareness of the real value of water in the perspective of the challenges of climate change and the transition to a circular economy.
He is an experienced (project) manager in connecting parties in (subsidized) industrial and/or educational, research & development and (pilot) demonstration projects; and an enthusiastic lecturer in the field of (conventional and sustainable) water technology. His driving force and motivation are bridging innovation, market-driven and technology-push developments with adequate capacity building, implementation and valorisation.
