Why i chose Software Engineering within the course HBO-ICT
Why did you choose the HBO-ICT-area of specialisation Software Engineering?
"I like working with computers, both with hardware and software. I find it interesting to tinker with computer parts and software, to write small programmes. Always looking for new possibilities and applications. You realise that you can get very far very quickly. Half a year ago, I did not know anything about the Java programming language and now I'm already programming things in Java. You notice that you start understanding things ever more quickly."
What has been your favourite course so far?
"I really liked the programming course; that was my favourite course so far. That is actually the main reason why I chose this degree programme. I am now in the process of building a (semi-) mail system in Java. It is not intended to be used in practice, but to learn how Java works. Programming in an object-oriented way is really rather easy."
How much time do you spend studying on average?
"I have three hours of lectures a day. In addition, I spend three to four hours a day on homework or working together in project groups."
Do you have any tips for your fellow students?
"Yes, I have:
• Manage your time well. Plan ahead and hand in your work on time.
• Move into student lodgings/rooms! This will make you more independent and self-confident.
• It helps to have some basic knowledge about computers. What does a processor do and what does a graphics card do, that kind of thing. That will save you a lot of time."
