Almost daily breakthroughs in biomedical science are reported in the media. For example, the use of stem cell transplantation in some forms of cancer, a vaccine against AIDS or malaria, or the discovery of genes that are involved in Parkinson's disease or ALS. This minor responds to this by introducing the student to recent developments in the biomedical field.

Course content

Biomedical laboratory technology and (bio)medical science develop rapidly. This minor is focused on this. The student becomes acquainted with recent developments in the field, both in research & development and in medical laboratory diagnostics.

During part 1, the student follows 4 courses. For this, the student makes a choice from a block of three courses (related to infectious diseases / hereditary diseases / tumor biology. 15 EC) and supplements these with Biotechnology or Laboratory Medicine (5 EC). Class meetings are held every week for each subject, where you work individually and in groups. In the last 2 weeks of Advances 1, the students look for a project (10 EC) to work on during Advances 2.

You will follow several classroom lessons per module, but you will mainly determine, prepare and carry out in-depth assignments. To this end, you work together with fellow students in a project group. In addition, guest lectures and excursions are organized.

Students who follow a program within the domain of Life Sciences and who have passed the propaedeutic exam (for foreign students a comparable course in Life Sciences). This minor is also available in quartile 1-2: in Enschede (Dutch language).

You are a student in the Life Science field, and you want to delve into your future area of expertise. Additionally, you want to largely determine how you shape the module? Then this minor is for you

Students are assessed on the basis of professional products and thematic assignments (e.g. a report, presentation, knowledge clip, etc.). Conditional tests are also part of the themes.
