Strategic Sourcing

In this module, you will learn to work with the Strategic Sourcing canvas (HG, 2023). The module takes the form of a business game. The context is an organisation working towards climate-neutral facility services in 2030. This organisation decides to take knowledge from the market and outsource several facility services. Throughout the module, you work in a team with 3-4 fellow students. You start as either a client or a provider. Halfway through the module, you and your team switch perspectives: from then on, the teams representing the client organisation switch to the role of the provider and vice versa. This way, you experience the impact of the choices you made in the strategy or offer phase.

You can work with the strategic sourcing canvas, both from the perspective of the customer and the supplier. You take into account trends, developments in the market and current social and environmental issues.

You know how to make the required performance measurable at output and outcome level.

Inhoud

This module runs for six weeks. Each week you will have a full day of lessons. Each lesson focuses on one or more steps of the strategic sourcing canvas, from strategy in week 1 to contract evaluation in week 6. The impact of your choices and actions are integrated into the course of the module. This way, you experience cause-and-effect relationships.

Programma

In the Master in Facility and Real Estate Management, we recognise that our society faces major challenges in terms of making the built environment more sustainable (transition to circular economy) and anticipating disruptive technology (such as AI and IoT). These complex strategic issues call for experts who are able to put housing issues in a broader perspective, beyond the boundaries of their own field. The Strategic Sourcing module is one of the core modules of the education programme. If, after completing the course, you decide to enter the Facility and Real Estate Management Master's (MFREM/MSc), you may be eligible for exemptions and a discount of €500 per completed module.

Afronding

You complete this module with a criterion-based interview in which you play the role of project manager for a new procurement project. You can choose whether you do this from the perspective of the client or that of the supplier. In preparation for the interview, you make a plan of approach for this new project, in which you translate the insights gained during the module into an improved approach. You will discuss this with two senior colleagues (the examiners).
